  • What is the Vallecitos Water District?
The Vallecitos Water District (VWD) provides water, wastewater, and reclamation services to a large population. It serves approximately 105,000 North San Diego County residents, including San Marcos, Lake San Marcos, parts of Carlsbad, Escondido, and Vista. • I didn’t know there was an election for people at the water district. Can you explain?
There are 5 elected officials on the Board of Directors. Water is a public trust, so it’s vital that citizens have a choice when selecting members of the board. For election purposes, the district is divided into 5 trustee areas, and a candidate can run for office if they live in the trustee area. Residents can only vote for candidates in their trustee area. Once elected, the board works together to serve the entire population of Vallecitos Water District.
  • What does the Board of Directors do?
VWD Board of Directors guides the overall governance and strategic direction of the water district, ensuring that it delivers safe, reliable, and affordable water and wastewater services to the community. The board meets twice a month and makes decisions about rates for customers, infrastructure upgrades, water policy, budget, personnel management, development services, and long-term water planning.
